Emsella Q&A

Who should consider Emsella treatment?

You should consider Emsella treatment if you have urinary incontinence (involuntary urinary leakage) that affects your quality of life. Most men and women experience urinary incontinence at one time or another, but if your symptoms continue for weeks or months, treatment is essential.

The problem worsens if you don’t take action and can even keep you from activities, like work and spending time with loved ones.

What is Emsella treatment?

Emsella is a noninvasive, outpatient procedure that uses cutting-edge technology to strengthen your pelvic floor. During treatment, you sit on the BTL Emsella Chair. The chair emits electromagnetic energy, causing your pelvic floor muscles to contract rapidly. These contractions strengthen your muscles, making it easier to prevent urine from leaking.

Emsella works similarly to Kegel exercises (Kegels). The difference is that it lets you complete thousands of muscle contractions in under an hour, which would be impossible to do on your own.

How long does it take to experience results from Emsella treatment?

Emsella treatment for urinary incontinence is cumulative, meaning you need to undergo the procedure several times to achieve optimal results. Dr. Van-Horne typically recommends a series of six 30-minute Emsella sessions spread over a period of three or four weeks.

Some people experience immediate relief from urinary incontinence, but for others, it takes longer.* Attend each of your scheduled appointments and follow Dr. Van-Horne’s instructions to ensure a positive treatment outcome.

Is Emsella treatment painful?

Emsella treatment is safe and usually well-tolerated. It’s normal to feel a mild tingling sensation in your pelvic area and rapid muscle contractions while sitting on the BTL Emsella Chair. After each session, there’s no downtime. Most people return to work and other activities on the same day.

Many people report feeling sore for a day or two after treatment, similar to how you would after an intense workout. Because the machine causes your pelvic floor muscles to flex thousands of times, it’s normal to have mild discomfort.

How do I prepare for Emsella treatment?

Emsella treatment doesn’t require special preparation. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to each session. Avoid wearing pants or shorts with zippers or metal buttons, as they can interfere with the electromagnetic pulses.
